Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar will visit Madhya Pradesh today after the announcement of the Datia Assembly byelections and the visit is likely to be aimed at assessing the preparedness of the electoral process there and strengthening it.

Kumar will be in Indore on the afternoon of July 4 as per the programme. He will also interact with over 1,500 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar and Khandwa at 4 PM at Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium during his visit, where he will address a BLO Conference.

At the conference, the Chief Election Commissioner will be talking about the aspects of maintenance of the poll voter list, administration of the polling booths and other aspects of the electoral process in order to ensure the readiness of the poll.

Kumar has become the first Chief Election Commissioner to directly meet the Booth Level Officers after holding such meeting in Delhi.

Following the conference, he will spend the night in Indore and then visit Omkareshwar and Maheshwar on 5th July. As part of his visit he will offer prayers at Omkareshwar Temple and visit the historic Maheshwar Fort.

The visit follows three weeks since the Election Commission said bypolls were set to be held for three Assembly seats in the country namely Datia constituency of Madhya Pradesh. The tour was seen to be crucial for looking over preparations and ensuring a smooth running of the upcoming bypoll by election officials.
