Bengaluru: Five women at a daycare centre located within the premises of HAL, a Capgemini’s campus in Bengaluru, have been booked after startling complaints of toddlers, aged between 2 to 3 years, being subjected to abuse.
Police say the kids were allegedly beaten, they were placed in the front loading washing machine drum, water was thrown in children’s mouths with a toilet jet spray and they were locked in the bathroom to stop them crying.
Widely released on social media, the videos sparking outrage include a police inquiry and a complaint filed with the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
A case has been filed against the five caregivers while investigation has begun to find out if the claims are true and the extent and nature of the abuse.
The incident has the parents concerned that their children were placed with a day-care they trusted to take care of them when they were at work at the IT company. It has also sparked doubts over the safety of child care facilities in corporate campuses, and the supervision of these premises.
In response to the incident, Capgemini states that the health, safety and well-being of its employees and their families is the top priority. The company said it was fully cooperating with investigating authorities, but it closed the on-campus day-care, as a precaution, for the duration of its investigation.
He also embarrassed some of the nation’s most renowned daycare providers, and the incident has led to a general outcry for tougher measures against those who caused the incident and better monitoring of childcare centres countrywide.
