Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday received the Guardian of the Blue Horizon award during his three-day visit to the island nation. It is the Seychelles’ highest presidential award for the leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Receiving honour, PM Modi dedicated the award to countries around the world that are working collectively to address the growing challenge of climate change.”I humbly accept this title with honor and dedicate it to all other countries that are struggling against the challenges of climate change and that consider the protection of the environment their responsibility toward future generations,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X. Expressing gratitude, he thanked the people and government of Seychelles, along with President Patrick Herminie, for conferring the prestigious recognition upon him.
Stressing on the need for collective global action, PM Modi said climate change remains an urgent challenge that requires countries to work together. He also noted that India’s commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in several national and international initiatives, including the LiFE Mission, the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure
Earlier this year, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) presented him with the Agricola Medal for efforts to strengthen food security, modernise agriculture and encourage sustainable farming practices. While, he received the Seoul Peace Prize in 2018 for promoting sustainable economic growth, international cooperation and inclusive development. The same year, the United Nations honoured him with the Champions of the Earth Award, the organisation’s highest environmental recognition, for his leadership in advancing climate action and environmental conservation.
