Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse by participating in a 6-km anti-drug awareness marathon in Chennai, completing the entire distance alongside thousands of participants.

The event, organised under the theme Start Run, Stop Drugs, drew ministers, government officials, volunteers and members of the public. Videos of the Chief Minister running the full course have since gone viral on social media.

Before the marathon began, Vijay administered an anti-drug pledge, which was repeated by participants gathered at the venue.

The awareness run witnessed large public participation, with people joining the campaign to promote a drug-free society. Instead of only flagging off the event, the Chief Minister also ran the entire 6-km route while encouraging fellow participants.

One of the highlights of the marathon was Vijay’s active participation throughout the event.

Dressed in a black T-shirt, black track pants and sunglasses, the Chief Minister maintained a steady pace during the run. His completion of the full distance drew appreciation from supporters, many of whom praised his fitness and disciplined lifestyle.

During the marathon, Vijay was also seen stopping briefly to offer water to another participant, a gesture that was widely shared online.

Videos from the event quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with supporters applauding Vijay’s stamina and hands-on participation in the awareness campaign.

Many observers said his decision to run alongside the public reinforced the campaign’s message by leading through personal participation rather than remaining a ceremonial presence.

The marathon ultimately became one of the key highlights of the International Day Against Drug Abuse celebrations in Chennai, with Vijay’s 6-km run drawing significant public attention.
