Allegations levelled against the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) regarding mysterious land acquisition by Mohan Yadav and his family in Ujjain have been firmly rejected by the office of Chief Minister.
In a statement on Tuesday, released under his official spokesperson, the CMO clarified that Yadav nor anyone in his family had bought any ground since he took up office as Chief Minister in December 2023. The report made it clear that land acquiring for the purpose of making money from anticipated government infrastructure and development project had been decisively rejected.
The heated argument came when a media report emerged that said those connected to the Chief Minister’s family and various real estate companies had bought 137 plots in Ujjain covering an estimated value of ₹45 crore. Reportedly, some of these acquisitions occurred in areas which are slated to see strong appreciation in the coming days as a result of the planned road development as well as land-use changes, along with the preparations for the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh.
The allegations were soon picked up by the opposition. Congress leaders such as Jairam Ramesh, Jitu Patwari and Supriya Shrinte called for impartial and independent enquiry and wondered about the timing of the alleged land grabs. Congress MP Trinamool Congress Sagarika Ghose also demanded to have a transparent investigation into this matter.
The allegations are totally baseless and misleading, once again, the CMO said, stating that there are no such land purchase transactions in Chief Minister’s name or the immediate family members of the Chief Minister during the tenure of Chief Minister. As opposition parties push for additional information on the allegations, the political dust-up has been gathering greater momentum.
