As many as six are reported to have died after the roof of an under construction sabha mandap collapsed at the Yashwadi Maruti Temple in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district on Saturday.

Preliminary investigation revealed the roof of the under-construction sabha mandap located in front of the temple suddenly collapsed while a large number of devotees were present at the premises. Being Saturday, the temple witnessed a heavy footfall triggering chaos as the roof collapsed. Several devotees nearly 40 are said to have been trapped in the collapse. However, there has been no official confirmation on the death count or those injured by the district administration.

Emergency services were immediately in place with police personnel and rescue teams responding to the incident. Large number of ambulances have been called for to shift the injured to hospitals for treatment. The administration is closely monitoring the situation as efforts continue to clear the rubble and rescue those trapped.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident. In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), he said, “The loss of lives due to the collapse of a wall in Parbhani, Maharashtra, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. May the injured recover at the earliest.”
