US president Donald Trump officially introduced the new Air Force One aircraft, the newest addition to the presidential fleet on Friday unveiling the ‘luxurious gift’ it received from the royal family of Qatar. “This is considered the world’s most luxurious plane. When it was built, it was built at a level that will probably never be seen again,” Mr Trump told a crowd in a new hangar at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He pressed the need for larger, more modern aircraft, noting that the previous VC-25A (a 747-based model) was approximately 35 years old and significantly smaller than the current one.

The jet has been transformed into what is described as a “flying White House” which is being called as the ‘bridge’ transport will serve as the primary presidential aircraft henceforth. Unlike the traditional air force one aircraft, the gift has a blue under belly with a presidential seal near the walkway. Besides the plane is equipped with cutting-edge communication systems, including Starlink and multiple redundant communication suites, which Trump describes as unprecedented.

The acquisition marks the first major transformation in the presidential air travel for 35 years. Reflecting upon the history of the previous VC-25A aircraft, which served every president since George H.W. Bush, Trump announced all Boeing 747-200 frames to be converted into museums.

Trump also dismissed the criticism on ethics and legality on the transactional nature of an expensive gift from a foreign government, saying it would be “stupid” to turn down the offer. Valued at an estimated $400 million prior to modification, the jumbo jet wildly exceeds standard statutory limits discerning unsolicited gifts from foreign states. The US Prez defended the arrangement as a pragmatic economic decision that shields American taxpayers from the immediate capital expenditures of purchasing a brand-new bridging aircraft.

White House officials confirmed that Trump plans to utilize the newly retrofitted aircraft for high-stakes diplomatic travel in the coming months. Mr Trump confirmed that he would be flying on his latest possession to the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, next month and indicated he would be returning to China “at some point”. China is hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November.
