Cocktail 2 has delivered the second-best opening for Shahid Kapoor’s career after Kabir Singh that collected Rs 20 crore and went on to make Rs 279 crore in India. The romcom starring Shahid alongside Kriti and Rashmika in the lead role featuring a love triangle minted Rs 13.10 crore on its opening day. The film now stands behind only Padmaavat that minted Rs 24 crore among the actors biggest Day 1 performers.
The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 20.04 % across cinema halls on Day 1 in 10,458 shows. Morning shows witnessed 11.08% occupancy while rose gradually to 23.69 % through the afternoon. A footfall of 37.62% was witnessed in the night.
Delhi NCR registered an occupancy of 16.3 % across 1199 shows while the Bollywood hub Mumbai recorded 19.7% occupancy across 745 shows.
Ahead of the release during a press conference, Shahid addressed the CBFCs decision to categorize the film an Adult Certification. During an interaction with fans, the actor said, “There is nothing in this film that audiences could find objectionable. I know we have received an A certificate, and I am still trying to figure out why. I didn’t understand it myself. This is the story of three people, and it is a film that can be watched with everyone. I hope you walk out with a big smile, reflecting on life. There are many moments that make life special, and Cocktail 2 is the kind of film that reminds you of those moments.”
The film marks reunion of Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. The duo won audiences over with their chemistry in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and many viewers were excited to see them share screen space once again. Adding a fresh element to the film is southern star Rashmika Mandanna who has carved her own place in the Bollywood industry ever since Animal. The trio depict a fun and frolic journey of friendship, feud and love.
Cocktail 2 is a spiritual sequel of Cocktail 1 set on the similar story feels with new charecters and drama.
