Dead body of the second MBBS student who drowned in the Tighra Dam near Gwalior was found on Sunday evening after 19 hours of search, officials said. SDRF and the police officials along with rescue team were deployed to search for the body of the second year MBBS student identified as Ayush Shrivastav a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
Interacting with the media on the incident site, Gajra Raja Medical college Dean RKS Dhakad described the incident ‘an unfortunate event’ noting that in total 8 students had gone to the Tighra Dam, where the two deceased enter in to the restricted area and sank to death.
According to the officials, during the search operations, Gopal’s body was found trapped approximately 20 feet deep and so was easily traceable in the shallow waters in comparison to another boy Ayush whose body was untraceable in the initial stages of the search operation. As the search deepened the second dead body was later found 50 feet deep stuck between the rocks and the bottom of the dam.
Following the postmortem, bodies of both the deceased were handed over to the family to perform the last rights.
Gopal and Ayush were said to be best friends in the college. They were aka Jao-Veeru throughout the campus said dean on being questioned about the two. Responding to questions on safety, he replied- though the hostel authorities have put in place strict rules, it is impossible to restrain every student from going out post 5 pm.
Pressing the media about the incident, Gwalior city Superintendent of Police Krishna Pal said the incident was reported by 6:30 pm on Friday. ” We received information around 6:30 PM that a group of students from GRMC Medical College had visited a remote area near Tigra Dam. While bathing, two of them drowned. Upon receiving the news, we immediately summoned the SDRF team and launched a search operation with local support and police assistance,” he said.
