A 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district after she refused to leave her husband and return to her parental home. The horror incident has raised serious questions about safety of a woman even within police premises.

The victim, Shivani, had married her neighbour Lalit Verma after leaving home in May. What began as a counselling session aimed at resolving a family dispute ended in tragedy when her father allegedly attacked her with a knife in full view of those present at the police station.

According to police, Shivani left her home on May 18 with Lalit Verma. The two later married at a temple and registered their marriage. Following her disappearance, Shivani’s parents filed a complaint against Lalit, leading police to launch a search operation. The couple was eventually traced in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district and brought back to Banda for legal formalities and questioning.

During the inquiry, Shivani and Lalit reportedly told police that they had married willingly and submitted documents supporting their claim.

The Police said Shivani was being prepared for a medical examination and statement recording when members of both families arrived at the police station. During a counselling session, her parents allegedly tried repeatedly to persuade her to return home. However, Shivani remained firm in her decision to stay with her husband. The decision has escalated the tension between the two groups and turned the situation more violent.

According to police, Shivani’s mother allegedly held her from behind while her father pulled out a knife and attacked her inside the police premises. The teenager suffered multiple stab wounds to her abdomen and other parts of her body. Shivani was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors could not save her and she later succumbed to her injuries.

The incident has triggered outrage due to the fact that the attack took place inside a police station, where the young woman had been brought under official protection and supervision. Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and the victim’s father has been arrested. Further investigation is underway. The circumstances leading to the attack and the sequence of events inside the police station are now being examined by investigators.
