Jaspal Rana, a former world-class shooter, high-performance coach of the Indian pistol team and had suffered from a serious heart ailment died Friday due to complications. The Indian sporting community has come to an end today on his passing with many athletes, coaches and politicians from across India honouring his life.
Doctors at the hospital where Rana was being treated indicated that he made it through a procedure to install a stent after having chest pain and discomfort from the ISSF World Cup in Munich recently. But his condition reportedly got worse in the subsequent days.
According to experts, after having persistent chest pain, Rana reached the hospital in a serious condition. Doctors determined that he’d had a big heart attack days before and had an artery completely blocked that supplied blood to his heart. When he was treated, his heart’s pumping action was greatly impaired, leading to heart failure.
Rana was taken to the Max Super Speciality Hospital at Saket where doctors working there made all efforts in stabilising him. He failed to get better from the medical complications.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences, calling Rana’s death as a “great loss to Indian sports. He lauded the iconic shooter for the incredible feats and contributions he had made to the sport and added that his skills had brought immense glory to the country.
Rana was once considered one of the best pistol shooters from India and later has contributed immensely to the upliftment of young Indian shooters as a coach.
