Support pours in for Jhanvi Kapoor’s character in Buchi Babu’ athletic drama ‘Peddi’ after the actress was called out names for over revealing. Topics such as hypersexuality, male gaze and misogyny have been the talking points ever since the movie hit the screens.
While many actors commented on the ongoing row and several female acquaintances from the industry have also joined to support. The latest amongst them is Kareena Kapoor Khan who kept her stance saying sensuality doesn’t always mean wearing revealing clothes. In an interview Mrs Khan cited the examples of Kajol in K3G and Sridevi in Chandani who blew the screen with their presence despite being dressed respectfully. She further went on to give the example of her mother-in-law- Sharmila Tagore who struck sensuality in Aradhna.
In the same interview Jaya Bachchan also sharing her experience said – Nobody ever dared to cross the line with me,” adding that despite her adamancy on declining such roles, she had one unpleasant experience. “I had only one unpleasant experience of being objectified by the director. I never worked with him again.
Interestingly, the criticism is no longer confined to female voices, veteran actor Jagapathi Babu has also extended support on the objectification of the actress stressing she should not be solely held responsible for the creative direction.
“Artists should not be trolled over creative decisions in a film. The poor girl simply did what the director asked her to do. Sometimes things misfire, and that can happen. In this matter, I support Janhvi Kapoor. She should not be targeted personally. People should not troll her and cause her mental distress,” Jagapathi Babu said
