Local authorities report that the truck was driving through the neighbourhood when the big tree crashed into the truck. The driver escaped with minor injuries, but the truck was heavily damaged. The fallen tree and damaged vehicle clogged up a major part of the highway so that there was no movement of vehicles.
Information about the incident was obtained soon after and police officers from the Darbha police station quickly arrived on the scene and started to control the heavy traffic. The long queues started to grow on both sides of the road and were seen in passenger and commercial transport buses and private vehicles from Jagdalpur to Sukma.
Officials activated a JCB machine and other equipment to cut down the tree and clear debris from the roadway to restore normal movement. Police said they are working on a priority basis to reopen the route and reduce disruption to commuters.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential danger of large trees on the roadside, especially in strong winds and during unstable weather. The authorities have asked drivers to be vigilant if they happen to pass through wooded sections of the road until it is safe for them to drive through and it is completely reopened.
