It has been a breath of fresh air for the residents of Madhya Pradesh with the sudden turn in the weather amid the scorching heat during the Nautapa season. Late-night thunderstorms, high winds, and occasional light rain were reported in a few areas of the state, and the temperatures eased from a string of hot days.

The weather department said that the weather scenario has changed considerably over the past 48 hours after the commencement of pre-monsoon activity. Multiple districts have been issued with an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gale wind of 40-60 kmph. The authorities have also urged people to stay vigilant as the weather could keep changing over the next few days.

The relief is welcome after the extreme heat was felt in some parts, with temperatures touching 47 degrees Celsius at places like Khajuraho and Nowgong. After the spells of rain, December temperatures have dropped in some districts, which provided relief from hot spells. The maximum temperature at Narsinghpur was 43.2 degrees Celsius, and there was a cooling trend in many districts.

The recent spell of rain was received in some parts of Tikamgarh and Datia, and Nowgong got some heavy showers as well. In a few districts like Gwalior, Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Ratlam, Sagar, Satna, Rewa, Dewas, Jhabua, Mandsaur, Betul, Balaghat, heavy rain and strong winds were reported.

Meteorologists believe that the current pre-monsoon activity is likely to continue to bring intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms to the state, which will further bring down the temperatures and give a respite from the prolonged heat wave.
