In light of growing national criticism towards CBSE’s recently introduced On Screen Marking (OSM) system, VSN Raju, the CEO of Coempt Edu Tech based out of Hyderabad, has vigorously defended the computerized marking system. According to Raju, all the criticisms raised by Class 12th students so far have been unique “one of its kind” instances of technological glitches.
This defense has come in wake of many students across the nation reporting large discrepancies ranging from shuffled answer sheets, blurred marks sheets and swapped booklets in the results announced after the 2026 board exam. Matters were further aggravated after Delhi student, Vedant Shrivastava claimed that the answer sheet supplied by CBSE against his roll number belonged to someone else.
Raju went on to clarify that initial results obtained internally by Coempt have pointed towards ‘human error’ made while scanning the answer papers physically in regional centers.
He highlighted that the platform had processed millions of answer sheets, adding that 95 percent of students who requested their booklets online had received them without any problems. He went on to address the accusations about a possible portal hack by saying that the issue of vulnerability on the part of the public test server hosting dummy data was exploited by an ethical hacker.
On the other hand, the entire episode has become a major political controversy, with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, calling for an investigation into the contract-awarding process. This is due to the fact that the company involved, which was known as Globarena Technologies before becoming Coempt Edu Tech, handled the 2019 intermediate exams in Telangana where mistakes were made.
CBSE clarified that there were no cases of favoritism involved in the multi-crore contract and maintained that it was issued in line with the established General Financial Rules.
This gives further insights into the growing unrest among Class 12 science stream students about their unexpectedly poor results.
