Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in a written message televised by the state media vowed that Israel’s existence will soon end. “The clock cannot be turned back, the shaky zionist regime will move closer to the end of its ominous existence,” Khamenei reportedly said in a public message. He further added that the Middle East would no longer serve as shields” for US bases.
“What is certain in this regard is that the hands of time will not turn backwards, and the nations and lands of the region will no longer serve as shields for American bases,” said Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since he took office in March, in a message marking the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Claiming victory Khameni said that the US had lost all axis of resistance and urged Islamic nations and other countries to share common interests.
Sources also reported that Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday that conclusions had been reached on several issues discussed in a possible 14-point memorandum of understanding, though he cautioned that a final deal was not imminent.
Meanwhile, Iran claimed to have brought down a US drone that was seen in the Iranian air space. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Iranian forces “fired upon an RQ-4 drone and an intruding F-35 fighter jet” as reported. The drone can loiter at up to 50,000 feet for more than 27 hours, gathering intel it said.
The official statement did not divulge information on where the incident occured. However, the Iranian military said it reserved the “legitimate and definite” right to retaliate against any ceasefire violations by the US.
