New Delhi: Hearing a cluster of petitions seeking replacement measures in NEET, the SC on Monday sought the response of the Centre, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe heard pleas demanding a power shift from NTA to an autonomous body to conduct the NEET medical examination.
During the hearing, the apex court remarked that it was ‘sad’ that the authorities did not take learnings from previous instances of NEET exam paper leak cases as it issued notice to the Centre and the Education Ministry over pleas related to NEET-UG 2026 exam.
“We are not so much on the examination. It is sad that they have not learnt their lessons. We passed an order. A committee was formed. It made recommendations, it was accepted. A monitoring committee was also there,” it said.
It further directed NTA to file a counter affidavit detailing compliance with the recommendations issued by the court-appointed monitoring committee.
The case has been listed for May 29th.
The FAIMA on May 13th sought a slew of reforms in the NEET-UG examination system after the recent cancellation citing paper leak. The plea on behalf of FAIMA was submitted by Advocate Tanvi Dubey. In the plea, the advocate sought replacing or fundamentally restructuring the National Testing Agency and reconducting the exam under a new body that should include retired Supreme Court judge, a cybersecurity expert, and a forensic scientist, to supervise the re-conduct of NEET-UG 2026, until the proposed National Examination Integrity Commission (NEIC) is formally constituted to oversee the re-examination.
