Severe heat and heatwave continue to wreak havoc in Telangana, claiming 16 lives so far. Given the severity of the situation, the government has announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stated that these deaths were reported in seven districts. On Saturday, Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy held a meeting with officials to discuss the situation caused by the heatwave. Following the meeting, Minister Ponguleti provided a full briefing to the media.
At least 16 people have died from heatstroke in seven districts of Telangana, prompting the government to announce a compensation of ₹400,000 to the families of those killed. Andhra Pradesh has reported 319 cases of heatstroke.
Record-breaking heatwaves have also worsened the situation in Telangana. During a review meeting chaired by State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, officials informed him about the deaths in the seven districts. An official statement from the minister’s office stated that the highest number of deaths, four, were recorded in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
