As part of the efforts by both countries to strengthen diplomatic relations, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, had an extensive meeting with India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, last Saturday night. In an unprecedented meeting that took place in the capital city at Sewa Teerth, Rubio made his first official visit to India. During the one-hour meeting, Rubio extended a personal invitation to Prime Minister Modi from the US President, Donald Trump, asking him to visit the White House soon.

Addressing his supporters on the social networking website, X, PM Modi expressed pleasure over the meeting and said that India and America would continue their cooperation to promote the “global good” and progress towards achieving the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

Major Focus Areas of Talks

The talks acquired special importance due to the current crisis situation in West Asia and the fluctuations in the global oil market scenario. Energy Security: High-ranking officials from the State Department revealed that Rubio informed PM Modi about the US point of view regarding regional instability and emphasized that Washington would not allow any geopolitical power to dictate its terms in the energy markets.

Economic Achievements: The officials took stock of their progress towards Mission 500, which was an ambitious project launched together to double their trade volume from 500 billion dollars to one trillion dollars by 2030 through heavy investments in technology and defense.

Geopolitical Coordination: The meetings were mainly centered around the idea of promoting a vibrant and resilient Indo-Pacific region.

“India is an extremely important partner for the United States. In the coming months, we will announce something big, which would help enhance relations between India and the US,” said US Secretary of State Mike Rubio after the meeting. Prior to visiting New Delhi, the highest-ranking US official began his four-day visit with a visit to the city of Kolkata, where he visited the Mother House that was the global headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity established by Saint Teresa.
