To combat Delhi’s rising air pollution, state-of-the-art pole-mounted dust catcher machines have been installed in the capital for the first time. These machines have been deployed in the Kirti Nagar area of West Delhi, where 21 machines have been installed as a trial. Significantly, these machines are mounted on streetlight poles, eliminating the need for additional space.
This machine, based on filter-less technology, is capable of cleaning airborne pollutants like dust and smoke. A single machine can purify approximately 300,000 liters of air per hour. The machine draws polluted air in through an inlet, cleans it, and releases it through the outlet.
The machine is also equipped with a special collection box, which collects airborne pollutants. When the box collects approximately 2.5 kg of pollutants, an automatic notification is sent to the control center. The box is then replaced, and the machine resumes operation. The plan is to compress the collected pollutants and use them as bricks.
Currently, these machines are powered by electricity, but in the future, plans are underway to power them with solar energy through solar panels. If this pilot project proves successful, they will be installed on a larger scale in other areas of Delhi as well.
