Flotilla activists released from the custody of Israeli forces accused the former of ill treatment and abuse. As per sources, many of them were hospitalized due to grievous injuries suffered at the hands of Israeli soldiers, describing beatings, tasers and attack dogs. Besides, female activists on board the ship also reported to have been sexually assaulted, including rape.

German officials claimed some of its nationals had been injured and that some accusations were “serious”, without giving further details. A legal source in Italy said prosecutors there were investigating possible crimes including kidnapping and sexual assault.

The Global Sumud Flotilla organizers have reported 15 cases of sexual abuse with the worst one occurring on a makeshift prison an Israeli landing craft which had barbed wires and shipping containers. Detainees were thrown into the containers and beaten over the head and ribs, the group said in a statement.

The Israeli forces dismissing the allegations said, “All prisoners and detainees are held in accordance with the law, with full regard for their basic rights and under the supervision of professional and trained prison staff.” It added that medical care was provided in accordance to the professional medical judgment and Ministry of Health guidelines.

A video featured online showed detainees kneeling with their hands bound by cable ties while Israel’s national anthem played in the background.

Over 430 people were detained by Israeli forces aboard 50 vessels in the international water that carried aid for crises hit Gaza on Tuesday.
