Lucknow. Preparations for the 2027 Census have begun across the state. In the capital, the Municipal Corporation has established control rooms in eight zones for the census, which will be active from May 22nd to June 20th, 2026. This initiative is for house listing and house counting. The focus is on the prompt resolution of public complaints. Special arrangements have been made for the exchange of information. The control room can be contacted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It should be noted that the Union Home Ministry (MHA) announced on January 8 that the first phase of the 2027 Census will be conducted between April 1 and September 30. Each state and union territory will complete this task within 30 days. The government also stated that residents will be given the option of self-enumeration 15 days before the start of household listing. The census was originally scheduled for 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now be completed in 2027.
The government has opened a dedicated portal for those who wish to opt for self-enumeration. This means you can now enter your own information online. This feature will be available for both phases of the census: Houselisting (HLO) and Population Enumeration. For public convenience, a complete list of 33 frequently asked questions has been provided on the portal. The government has clarified that the first phase of the census will begin on April 1, 2026. During this period, citizens will be asked 33 questions either door-to-door or online.
