The state of Madhya Pradesh has been in the news for a violent attack on an excise department team during a raid on an alleged illegal liquor operation in Sheopur district has raised concerns. When other officials arrived to act against the illegal alcohol trade activity, villagers allegedly attacked them with sticks, inflicting serious damage on a government vehicle, officials said.

The incident happened at Pipalmenta village in the area of Manpur police.The incident occurred at Pipalmenta village in the area of Manpur police, after it was reported to the excise department that illegal liquor production along with the part of distribution was going on on a large scale in the locality. On the tip off, the team went to the village and raided them and arrested illegal liquor.

Soon it turned violent when a group of villagers surrounded the officers and started throwing sticks and rods at them, officials said. The mob reportedly broke windows and damaged the body of the department’s vehicle, though it is unclear how the department managed to escape with little to no damage.

A video of the incident has emerged, in which several individuals can be seen attacking the vehicle with sticks while creating chaos on the scene. The video has caused anger and concerns about the security of the teams conducting anti-fraud missions in hard-to-reach areas.

After the attack, excise officials made a complaint to the Manpur Police Station. A case has been filed against the teachers by the police under sections such as obstruction of government work and vandalism.

An effort is under way to identify the accused from viral footage captured on the video and police teams have been deployed to arrest the criminals behind the attack, authorities said.
