It was his first game of the season and Pandey was composed to deliver a 45 off 33 balls to anchor the effort, while Powell was a useful 40 for 30 to come up with a fast start. The pair built a game-changing partnership for the fourth wicket as KKR failed to get the momentum going early in the chase.
Corbin Bosch was impressive with the ball for Mumbai Indians, though he was on the losing side, but kept the Mumbai Indians in the contest until the fag-end with his figures 3/30. Later, Rinku Singh scored a boundary off the first ball of the game and the home side rejoiced.
Previously KKR bowlers had taken control of the game on the slow and sticky surface during the overcast conditions. They chose to bowl first and put Mumbai Indians down 41/4 in the powerplay. Left arm pacer Saurabh Dubey and Cameron Green, who went on to take the wicket of the next two balls, took the honours.
The early slump loomed large on the board for Mumbai Indians and they couldn’t bounce back after recording a below-par 147/8 mark at the end of the journey. The victory gave KKR a 13-point lead as they finished tied with the Punjab Kings, though the latter still had the advantage on net run rate. KKR are now in their last league match against Delhi Capitals, hoping to keep their playoff quest going with another victory.
