Madhya Pradesh has been under a severe heatwave like situation with at least 22 cities there experiencing the temperature beyond 44 degree Celsius, so the weather department has issued a heatwave alert for several districts for the next 48 hours.

The other Heatwave spots of the state were Nowgong (46), Tikamgarh (45.5), Damoh (45) and Satna (44.8) and Sagar (44.5).

With the temperature reaching 44°C, it was the hottest day of the season in the capital city Bhopal also. Even Indore, which is relatively cooler, recorded temperatures of close to 42°C in Gwalior.Gwalior recorded mercury of 43.7°C while Jabalpur recorded 43°C of mercury even in such conditions when it remains relatively cooler.

The weather department had issued an alert to expect heatwave conditions to prevail over the coming days, particularly in the Khajuraho and the neighbouring districts. Police has urged residents to stay inside during the hottest part of the afternoon and to drink plenty of water.

The extreme temperatures statewide have had a major impact on life. In the afternoon, the roads and marketplaces were mostly empty as people preferred to stay indoors. Hospitals also have seen a rise in cases of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The officials advised the people to take precautions and drink enough water, avoid direct exposure to sunlight and stay indoors other than when necessary.
