In a major setback for CSK all-rounder Jamie Overton would not be seen for the upcoming matches. The team confirmed his return to the UK for a treatment of his right thigh injury. Overton emerged as a crucial overseas player who claimed 14 wickets and scored 136 runs in 10 matches.
“Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management,” CSK said in a statement on Wednesday.
Earlier, CSK announced the signing of Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh. It’s clear that now he won’t be available for the play-offs. In fact, his season might be over if the injury is serious. On Friday, CSk and LSG lock horns again, in an away fixture, after which SRH and GT line up against them.
CSK this year has suffered major drawback with Nathan Ellis, Ayush Mhatre and Khaleel Ahmed absent due to their injuries. And then to make matters worse, MS Dhoni is yet to play his first game in IPL 2026.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru cruised to a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL clash in Raipur. Chasing 193 for victory, Kohli smashed an unbeaten 105 off 60 balls, studded with 11 boundaries and three sixes, and shared a match-defining 92-run partnership for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (37 off 27 balls) to guide RCB to win in 19.1 over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Rasikh Salam Dar took one wicket each.
For KKR, Kartik Tyagi took three wickets, while Sunil Narine took one. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 71 while Rinku Singh was unbeaten at 49. The Kolkata players won the toss and chose to bat first posting 192/4.
With this win RCB topped the charts with 16 points level with Gujarat Titans.
