Anti Congress posters showing Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have emerged in Kerala in the wake of fresh doubts internally that the Congress of United Democratic Front (UDF) will select them as its next Chief Minister candidate.
The controversial posters were spotted near the Wayanad District Congress Committee office and also in front of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s MP office in Mukkam in Kozhikode. Wayanad’s MP for the last five years has been Priyanka Gandhi while Rahul Gandhi was elected to the parliament for Wayanad in 2019 and held the seat till 2024. The posters of both messages advised the two leaders against backing for senior Congress chief K. C. Venugopal for the chief minister job.
One of the posters read that while Venugopal may be close to Rahul Gandhi, “the people of Kerala will never forgive” such a decision. Raja Saheb said that “Wayanad will become the next Amethi”, and another one said, “Kerala will not forgive Rahul and Priyanka for this ‘Political Blunder.’”.
The incident has come in the wake of intra-party disagreements on selection of leadership. Venugopal reportedly enjoyed the backing of six out of nine leaders in recent consultations, the others supporting V. D. Satheesan, and one leader Neutral. Ramesh Chennithala is also believed to be among the contenders to see the light of day.
The posters were placed late in the night and although their identity remains elusive, their actions can be seen on CCTV screens. An internal investigation has been launched by congress workers and there are rumors that the other political parties are also suspected. In Thrissur, there was one similar reported occasion, which was reportedly connected with one CPI(M) worker.
