Describing the occasion as a defining chapter in the state environmental history, CM Yadav in his visit to KNP declared that MP had embraced the cheetahs as family asserting that MP was no longer just a participant in Cheetah conservation but a heartland of cheetah revival.
Cheetahs- once a part of the Indian Ecological system were re-introduced through Project Cheetah-launched by PM Modi to revive the existence of the big cats. Before entering the forests, the animals are kept under enclosures where they are monitored to adjust to the Indian conditions. Forest officials track every animal using GPS collars, health checks and regular monitoring. The birth of cubs is India according to scientists is one of the strongest signs on the project’s success.
Cheetahs were brought from South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. With the latest release, India’s cheetah count has rose to 57 including 54 in KNP and 3 in Gandhi Nagar Sanctuary, labelling MP as the nation’s ‘Cheetah State’.
