Chennai: The battle is won! Actor turned politician Vijay who met the Tamil Nadu Governor RV Arlekar staked claim to form the government. He will be taking oath as the Chief Minister tomorrow afternoon according to an insider.
The high stakes meeting followed several discussions with the Governor ended after the VKC and IUML extended unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to take charge of the state.
TVK now with a majority of 120 MLAs is all set to form the government in the state. This comes after intense drama took place over the past three days on proving the majority to stake claim. According to sources, VCK was seeking Deputy CM and some key Cabinet posts in the TVK-led state government. However, no such conditions were mentioned in the letter of support.
The TVK chief has held back-to-back meetings with the Governor to stake claim of the government. Earlier on Wednesday, in its first meeting Vijay and his party had submitted a letter with signatures from 113 MLAs with additional support from the Congress. Despite of which it fell short of 5 MLAs to form a government. Later, VCK and Left parties extended support to the newly formed party. The Gov had however, denied accepting it asking him to prove the support of at least 118 MLAs to form the government.
TVK emerged as the single largest part in Tamil Nadu delivering a major upset to the Dravidian duopoly. It captured 108 seats across the state, following short by just 10 numbers to stake claim.
