The military chief of Pakistan attracted a lot of attention on the internet after responding to the press briefing held by India on the occasion of the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor with an unusual statement. Just after the Indian armed forces officers briefed the media on Thursday, Pakistan gave a short briefing and during the press meet, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry asked about the reason while the Indian officers briefed in English.

In response to this interaction with the Indian media, Chaudhry commented, “Why are they speaking English?” Or is it that you want to share with the world what went on?” Many people mocked the comment, and it soon went viral on social media, calling it an “unusual line of critique” in the midst of an actual military discussion.

On May 7, India marked one year of Operation Sindoor, the cross-border military operation that was initiated after the fatal terror attack in Pahalgam on 26 civilians in 2025. The attack is said by the Indian officials to be a “decisive” move against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK and classified as an attack against terrorism.

At the press conference on Thursday, Air Marshal AK Bharti talked about how much damage had been done in the four days of the conflict. He said the Indian forces had destroyed nine terrorist camps and hit 11 Pakistani airfields. India scored another kill with the downing of 13 Pakistani aircraft, including a high-value airborne asset, Bharti said, adding the aircraft was being hailed from more than 300 kilometres away.

Pakistan, however, insisted that India’s operation was “unprovoked”, and reiterated previous allegations of Pakistani downing of Indian fighter jets, which India has vehemently denied.

Pakistan also celebrated the day by calling it “Marka-e-Haq” or defensive victory. Contrasting stories from both nations again made it clear that the military standoff created the lingering tensions and information warfare between the two nations.

Indian officials also said that there was no major damage to civilian or military infrastructure on the Indian side during the war and that the operation was targeted at terror-related targets.
