West Bengal: The oath taking ceremony in West Bengal is scheduled to take place on May 9. Interacting with the news reporters, BJP leader Locket Chatterjee has said that the party’s central leadership will decide the new chief minister’s face for West Bengal ahead of the oath-taking ceremony on May 9.
After registering a landslide victory in the Assembly elections, BJP is set to form the government in the state. BJPs Suvendhu Adhikari who defeated TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee is among the forerunners for the post. Besides Suvendhu, Bhattacharya is also a strong contender for the post. BJP won this first assembly polls in Bengal under the leadership of Bhattacharya.
BJP secured 206 seats higher than the two thirds mark bringing end to the TMCs 15-year rule. It will be for the first time that West Bengal will be governed by the party in power at the centre. This victory also marks BJPs expansion in the eastern region of the country strengthening its position spanning Bihar, Bengal and Odisha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the outcome, stating, “Lotus blooms in West Bengal” and that the BJP would strive to meet the expectations of the people of the state.
