According to IMD, a weather warning is issued for the National Capital Region (NCR). Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad would face severe weather conditions during the evening, where IMD has put out an Orange Alert due to the expected moderate rains along with thunderstorms and strong winds, implying that it would be a respite from the ongoing heat wave in early summer.

While nearby cities such as Gurugram and Faridabad have been put under a yellow alert, meaning the intensity of the rains is expected to be less than those in the previous category, yet there could be local rains and thunderbolt storms.

The recent change in weather is said to have been caused by the strong Western Disturbance, which has led to heavy rains in many parts of the region. While temperatures had been soaring for the past seven days to over 39 degrees celcius, Wednesday’s pre-monsoon rains have brought much-needed relief. The maximum temperature in the national capital had dropped drastically from 37.1 degrees celcius.

Delhiites witnessed a striking mix of weather conditions in April this year, with spells of rain, bouts of heat and occasional days of clean air, making it the wettest April in over a decade, among the least polluted, and one of the coolest in recent years.

The city recorded its wettest April in 18 years, with pre-monsoon showers lashing parts of the capital in the first half of the month. As of now, the capital has received 27.9 mm of rainfall this April, compared to 38.6 mm recorded in April 2008, according to official data.
