An Iranian legislator has made it clear that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is paying a visit to Pakistan with the sole purpose of bilateral relations and nothing to do with nuclear talks with the United States. Iranian MP Ebrahim Azizi underlined that the visit is supposed to build the relationship between Tehran and Islamabad, as there is tension in the region.
This explanation notwithstanding, the diplomatic action surrounding the visit has been heightened. The White House announced that senior envoys of the US President Donald Trump are visiting Pakistan; they include Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. They intend to have proxy talks with the Iranian leadership, and Pakistan is the middleman, who will revive ceasefire negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Iran has however strongly denied having any direct interaction with US officials during the visit of Araghchi. The foreign ministry spokesperson Esmael Baqaei said that they will not have any face-to-face meetings and that any communication will be channeled through the Pakistani authorities.
Trump in the meantime, responded to the mounting tension by saying that the US would never use nuclear weapons on Iran. He emphasized that the traditional military power had already made a great impact and again he said that no country should use nuclear weapons.
The events underscore the current diplomatic intrigues with world powers trying to defuse the situation and a way to a long-term solution.
