MS Dhoni, the Indian Premier League icon of Chennai Super Kings, is still missing the current Indian Premier League 2026 season though he has been busy participating in training. The 44-year-old veteran has been spotted consistently training both wicketkeeping and batting prior to games, even the recent game with Mumbai Indians, but is not yet able to resume on field, which leaves fans in dismay.

Dhoni was even declared out of the first two weeks of the tournament because of a calf strain. Nevertheless, there is still no clarity as to when he is making a comeback as almost a month has elapsed. There was increasing speculation that when coming back, Dhoni would be used as an impact substitute, with his only involvement being in batting and leaving the wicketkeeping to another player.

Ruling out such rumours, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey assured that Dhoni would come back to full responsibilities when he is fit. He has stressed that Dhoni would go on to play as the wicketkeeper of the team without considering a limited role. Hussey clarified that the major worry is still on Dhoni as a result of his calf injury and more so the physical requirements of the running between the wickets at critical stages of the game.

He also said that the team is putting the priority of ensuring that Dhoni is fully recovered before getting him back to the field, so that he is physically fit to cope with the pressure of match situations. In the meantime CSK fans will need to wait a bit more to see their legendary captain back on the field.
