The accident occurred in the Velparai hill area of ​​Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. Thirteen people from Kerala’s Malappuram district were returning from a tourist van after a trip. According to police, the van suddenly lost control at a dangerous turn on the Velparai-Pollachi Hill Road. Nine teachers died when a tourist van fell into a ditch in Tamil Nadu’s Valparai.

A group of teachers and other staff from a school in Kerala, along with their families, had traveled to this area of ​​Tamil Nadu for a vacation. They first visited the Athirapally Waterfalls and then headed to Valparai. Their van met with an accident.

Following the accident, a crowd of parents and locals gathered at the school. A total of 16 people were reportedly on the trip. Kerala police said they were in contact with Tamil Nadu police and were monitoring the situation.

Expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he expresses his condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
