The temperatures will skyrocket in Delhi in the next few days and the mercury is set to be 40 C in the middle of the week, as per the India Meteorological Department. The slow build up comes after a short period of rain earlier this week which had momentarily relieved the heat.

Saturday was the day the national capital experienced the highest temperature of 34.7° C, or about 1.4 degrees lower than the average of the season. Nevertheless, the trend is showing a gradual increase as on some days, temperatures hit as low as 28.2° C in the early part of the week which is among the lowest in April in ten years; the next few days, temperatures went beyond 32° C. Meteorologists have already predicted that the highest temperature will be 40° C on Wednesday and might even reach 41° C on Friday.

The IMD has predicted a steady rise of 6-7C in the coming week and the temperatures are expected to change to below normal to above normal. Minimum temperature will also increase slowly with a gradual rise of 18.6 C on Saturday to about 23-25 C on Thursday.

The increasing heat is explained by weather specialists as due to a deficiency of atmospheric activity. Meteorologists say that declining power of cooler northwesterly winds coupled with dry weather, clear skies, and continuous sunshine is increasing the warming trend.

It is also indicated that heatwave conditions may arise in case of excess in temperature and it will be over 40° C and quite high than usual. People living in the area have been cautioned to exercise caution since the city is preparing to experience more extreme weather conditions in the coming days.
