A shocking incident has come to light from Pune, Maharashtra. A 20-year-old Marine Engineering student died after a basketball pole fell on him while he was doing pull-ups in a college campus in Maval taluka. The deceased, Vishal Verma, was a second-year B.Tech student. As usual, after running at around 7:30 in the morning, he stopped at the basketball court and started doing pull-ups by holding the metal ring of the basket. During this, the pole fell and he died. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Vishal Verma, a resident of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Vishal was a second-year student at the engineering institute.

According to media reports, Vishal had stopped by the campus to exercise early Sunday morning. He went to the basketball court to do pull-ups and began hanging onto a board. The basketball frame broke and fell, severely injuring Vishal’s neck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in the Talegaon area, where he was pronounced dead. It is reported that he had suffered a neck fracture.

Some media reports have stated that the ambulance arrived late after the accident, preventing Vishal’s rescue. However, the college administration has not confirmed this. Police say they are investigating any negligence at the college. Dr. Sanjeet Kanoongo, principal of the Tolani Maritime Institute, described the incident as tragic and said he would investigate. The student’s parents have been informed.
