Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, will argue his case against himself later this week in the Delhi High Court in relation to his petition asking Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma to recuse herself in the Delhi excise policy case.
This time with his wife Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal appeared in the High Court earlier in the speculation that he would present arguments in the case himself. His motion is requesting Justice Sharma to step out of the appeal against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against a trial court directive that freed him and 22 other defendants in the alleged excise policy case.
Kejriwal has also expressed doubt on the issue of bias in his plea, and demanded the case be sent to another bench. He had previously petitioned the Chief Justice on the administrative side to do the same, but was denied, and the court observed that the case had been allotted as indicated by the current roster.
The High Court has given notice on the application of Kejriwal and has asked the Central Bureau of investigation to replied. On behalf of the agency, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta declined the plea, terming the charges as frivolous, baseless and grave.
The case will be heard this week, and the fact that Kejriwal decided to present himself in front of the court has attracted a lot of attention, which has given a new twist to the current legal case.
