On Monday morning in Jaipur, police officials said that a Japanese tourist was sexually harassed by five men near Jaigarh Fort. It is claimed that the accused fled the scene when the woman raised an alarm.

The authorities claim that the event happened at about 8 am when the tourist was going to the Ganeshji temple which is situated outside the fort. A Japanese woman who had entered Jaipur three days ago was on a sightseeing trip when she was walking along a fairly lonely path, when the group allegedly pulled her and harassed her.

According to the Amer police station house officer Gotam Dotasra, the victim started screaming right after the incident and the accused had fled. One of the security guards who was the closest to her came in her aid and helped her reach the closest police station.

The tourist then made an official complaint to the Amer police station about the incident and how the five people were involved. A police investigation has been initiated and the suspects are being hunted down.

Police officers indicated that they are trying to examine CCTV video footage of the surrounding environment and acquire additional evidence. The accident has increased the issue of safety of tourists, particularly in remote locations of tourist attraction sites.

The government has also promised to deal with those caught in the act and further steps towards additional security measures might be adopted to stop such incidents in future.
