Raghav Chadha ceases to be the deputy leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha, and Ashok Mittal replaces him. This change has been communicated to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat by the party using an official letter.
The communication further added that Raghav Chadha, who is a member of the upper house representing Punjab, should not be given a quota of speaking time in parliament by the party. The shift is an indication of a big internal rearrangement in the parliamentary leadership of AAP.
Although the party has not outlined the reasons as to why the change is being made in a publicly accessible way, the move is being viewed as part of a wider strategic shift in its legislative procedures. Ashok Mittal, who will now be the deputy leader, will likely have a prominent role in the representation of the party and floor management at the Rajya Sabha.
As of today the AAP has ten members in the Rajya Sabha, one of which is a Punjab and the other three are Delhi members, which makes the AAP a significant party in the Upper House. The reshuffle may affect the way the party aligns itself to important national issues and discussions in Parliament.
The growth is timed when the political parties are working very hard to recalibrate their parliamentary leadership and communication tactics, both inside and outside of the House.
