The IPL 2026 began with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru having big run chases but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had the two different ways of solving the same problem as witnessed.
Kohli scored 69 not out in 38 ball which was a 202 run chase won by RCB with shocking ease. His control, accuracy and calmness made his game as well constructed in that there was no way that the chase could go astray. Conversely, Rohit hit a thunderous 78 off just 38 balls to give the Mumbai Indians a faster pace of 221 run chase, and his aggressive instinct played a role in eliminating pressure of the scoreboard at the initial stages.
Although the number of deliveries was equal, the difference in impact was observed. Virat Kohli achieved 181.58 strike rate, Rohit 205.26 acceleration and nine additional runs were drawn. The difference was mainly as a result of hitting of the boundaries Kohli hit 5 fours and 5 sixes (50 boundary hits) whilst Rohit hit 6 fours and 6 sixes (60 boundary hits).
Interestingly, the batters scored on an average 76.3 percent on shooting scoring shots and had played nine dot balls each. The difference was not so much in the frequency but the weight of scoring shots. Kohli struck a boundary after every 3.8 balls and Rohit struck after every 3.17 balls; Kohli was stable whereas Rohit was dynamic and used to change the momentum of the game.
Finally, the role of Kohli was in making a construction of a chase with belief, and the role of Rohit was making a pressure demolition with aggression two equally efficient tactics depending on the circumstances of the match.
