Jagdalpur: Naxalism, which had been destroying the social fabric of Bastar for more than five decades, has come to an end today. This negative, destructive ideology not only hindered Bastar’s development but also claimed the lives of innocent tribal people. However, thanks to strong political resolve, 96 percent of Bastar is now free of Naxalite activities. The issue will be discussed in the Lok Sabha on March 30th.

The spark that ignited in Naxalbari, Bengal, in 1967 engulfed the forests of Bastar in the decades that followed, claiming thousands of lives, destroying countless homes, and transforming an entire region.
But from the stage of Bastar Olympics 2024, the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement which gave a fixed deadline to this story, he said that Naxalism will be completely eradicated from the country by March 31, 2026, this was the first time that a date for the end of this long struggle was revealed, a promise which is being considered not just words but the conclusion of this fight going on for decades.
Now, as the date of March 31, 2026 approaches, the atmosphere has changed. That declaration appears to be turning into reality. In these two years, a total of 3,000 Naxalites have joined the mainstream, 2,000 have been arrested, and the campaign has been so intense that more than 500 Naxalites have been killed, including the Naxalite general secretary.
5000 Naxalites Reduced; CG Government Reveals Data
Overall, more than 5,000 Naxalites have been reduced. However, in the history of Naxalism, from 1987 to 2026, 1,416 soldiers have been martyred. There were 1,277 IED blasts, in which 443 soldiers were martyred, and 915 were injured. Additionally, 4,580 IEDs have been recovered.
According to Chhattisgarh government data, today, out of the five districts of Bastar division, only one Naxalite is active in Dantewada, while two are active in Narayanpur, five in Sukma, 11 in Bijapur and a few 19 Naxalites are active in Kanker.
Although armed Naxalism has been eradicated by the resolution, the biggest challenge for soldiers remains the ammunition dumped in the forests. Over time, this too will be discovered, removed, and destroyed.

Home Minister Vijay Sharma has stated that we will now make every village in Bastar IED-free, like an ODF village. The fire in Bastar is now extinguished, and the forests of Bastar, once synonymous with fear, will once again be known for their true identity, their peace, and their beauty. Bastar will now be recognized for its beauty.
Ahead of the March 2026 deadline for a Naxal-free India, the Lok Sabha will hold a crucial discussion on Naxalism eradication. According to the Lok Sabha agenda, March 30th has been allocated for a discussion on Naxalism eradication efforts. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde will initiate the discussion.
