The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Friday approved a military capability boost worth ₹2.38 lakh crore to equip the country’s armed forces with more Russian-origin S-400 Triumf air defence systems, remotely piloted strike aircraft, transport planes, artillery guns and tank ammunition, the defence ministry said.

The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) has officially greenlit several key defense upgrades for the Indian Air Force. Here is a more streamlined version of that announcement.

The DAC has authorized the acquisition and maintenance of the following critical assets:

  • Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA): To modernize the transport fleet.
  • S-400 Missile Systems: Enhancing long-range surface-to-air defense capabilities.
  • Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft: Introducing advanced unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs).
  • Su-30 Engine Overhaul: Servicing and updating the aero-engine aggregates for the Sukhoi-30 fleet.

Strategic Impact

The government emphasized that the new Medium Transport Aircraft will replace aging AN-32 and IL-76 models. This transition is designed to bridge current gaps in strategic, tactical, and operational airlift capacity, ensuring the Air Force can move personnel and equipment more efficiently across diverse terrains.
