It was confirmed by the Indian Army officials that the Pakistani drone had entered the Indian territory in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, early in the morning on Sunday, when it was shot down by the Indian Army. At around 6:10 am, the unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted in the Digwar region by the troops who were on a forward post.

Soldiers, according to the officials, opened fire at the drone as soon as they saw it and fired more than a dozen rounds in an effort to counter the aerial intrusion. The drone then flew away and landed on the territory of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), said to have been dodging the fire.

The security forces then undertook a search mission in the adjacent vicinity to eliminate the possibility of any weapons, explosives, or narcotics being airdropped in the short operation. According to the officials, this was done in accordance with the standard operating procedures to confirm that there was no security breach on the ground.

This is the second drone sighting in the concerned area in three days. Indian troops had also opened fire on another Pakistani drone spotted in the same sector on February 27.

Security agencies have observed an increase in cross-border drone activities over the last few years, as in many situations, do attempt to smuggle in arms, ammunition, or narcotics into Indian land. The recent infiltration has also increased alertness in the LoC, with the troops ensuring high alert to eliminate any possible threats to border security.
