Dew has not yet made a major difference in evening matches to the 2026 T20 World Cup, yet the increasing heat in Chennai has been an issue in the run up to the must-win Super 8 match between India and Zimbabwe at Chepauk. In the event of the occurrence of heavy dew during light time, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has been quoted to have initiated a control measure to keep the conditions operative during the entire match.
The TNCA, in a report, imported a specialised chemical called Dew Cure, which was manufactured in United States, in the process of relaying the Chepauk outfield prior to the tournament. At the field, the product is usually applied to prevent moisture on the surface at the Major league Baseball stadiums. During the preceding days leading to the high-stakes contest, ground personalities combined the solution with water and sprayed it over the field on two days prior, and one more time was planned to be sprayed over the field during the afternoon of the match.
Those sources who are conversant with the process elaborated that when the treatment is applied it prevents the moisture to settle on grass blades. Any dew that appears is soon defused off, and the surface is relatively dry, and the benefit that normally accrues to a team playing under lights is lessened.
The Indian team had a practice week before at the venue and is thought to have been contented with the playing conditions. It is alleged that the Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI) is deliberating on the approach to incorporate the use of this technique to the semifinals and final or even across the IPL 2026 venues, where dew has often played a part in determining which side won.
Interestingly, Chepauk has not acted the same way during this tournament. The pitch has been pitch-friendly traditionally, as the batters have been favored, with little support to the bowlers.
