Those Indian medical students who are in Iran are in a state of confusion following a recent warning issued by the ministry of External Affairs asking Indian nationals to quit Iran as security issues continue to mount. This is because the advisory by the Embassy of India, Tehran, has put hundreds of students in a dilemma as they have important examinations in the near future.
Things have been strained in Iran after the popular anti-government protests that erupted in January, as well as the increased international tension, including the threat of potential military force by US President Donald Trump. Against these backgrounds, Indian officials have recommended students, pilgrims and any other citizens to leave the country via any existing commercial flights and means of transport.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has written a letter to the External Affairs Ministry asking it to intervene and demand the Iranian authorities to delay major examinations. The Association National Convenor, Nasir Khomehami, announced that on March 5, 2026, with the oversight of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, there will be two nationwide medical tests, the Uloompaya (Comprehensive Basic Science Examination) and the Pre-Internship Examination.
These are compulsory academic accomplishments to the medical students and are important to advance their courses. Most of the students affected are found to be quite apprehensive about what to do to their academic future and their personal security as it remains uncertain about the changing geopolitical state.
