New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered an FIR and started an investigation into the clash that broke out between two student organizations on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus late Sunday night. Several students were injured in the clash. According to police officials, upon receiving information about the incident, the police immediately reached the campus and increased security. On Monday, the university’s CSO submitted a written complaint to the police regarding the incident. The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and have started further investigation. In this case, the police have also issued instructions to increase surveillance and security on the campus.
A fight broke out between two student organizations on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus late Sunday night. Several students were reportedly injured in the altercation. Following multiple calls, police arrived at the university campus and tightened security. On Monday, the university’s Chief Operating Officer filed a written complaint with the police regarding the incident that occurred that night.
Police registered a case under these sections
After receiving numerous calls, police immediately tightened security on campus. On Monday, the university’s Chief Security Officer filed a written complaint regarding the incident that occurred last night. The complaint alleges that JNUSU leaders and their associates were subjected to violent attacks. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under sections 115(2), 126(2), 191(2), 189(2), 121(1), 132, 61(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and 3 of the PDPP Act.
Meanwhile, the university administration stated that it had received complaints of some protesting students locking academic buildings and pressuring students studying in the central library to join the demonstration. The administration clarified that strict action will be taken against the accused under university regulations and the Indian Penal Code. However, academic activities are still continuing as normal.
An official said that a meeting was held between JNU security forces and police officials on Monday afternoon, in which measures to increase security on the campus and future policies were discussed.
