In the state of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, an Indian Air Force employee and his father were allegedly attacked by a group of people in a wedding procession after they protested against people drinking in the streets and blocking the road. The police officials said the incident related to drinking took place on February 19 in the village of Amargarh that falls under Jahangirabad police station.
The video of the fight went to social media with a disorganized situation that a number of people were involved in the fight. In the video, the clothes of one man are torn in the middle of the confrontation, and one of the women, who is presumed to belong to the wedding party, can be seen falling during the mayhem.
Police claimed that both sides have written complaints about the incident. Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Shankar Prasad said that a case and a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) is registered at Jahangirabad police station, and it is being investigated further.
The Air Force member who was quoted as Pratham Singh was said to be coming back after an engagement ceremony with his father, Jitendra Singh, who is a primary school principal. Singh had complained that wedding procession that featured ghudchadhi ceremony was passing through the Jahangirabad road with loud music playing.
He argued that some of the participants were dancing with bottles of liquor in the middle of the road causing traffic jam. An outburst of anger between him and his father over the obstruction and rude conduct apparently led to a physical clash when they protested. The police are investigating the events that led to the incident.
