Raipur: Amid the ongoing Naxalite surrender and rehabilitation campaign in Chhattisgarh, the BBM division of the Naxalite organization has now written a letter to Home Minister Vijay Sharma. It calls for 15 Naxalites to surrender with their weapons by March 3. All are said to be active in the Balangir, Bargarh, and Mahasamund areas. The letter was issued by West Sub-Bureau Secretary Vikas.

The letter from the Naxalites of the BBM division states that they wish to surrender their weapons and return to the mainstream. They have appealed to the Home Minister via radio for security guarantees. They have said they will return between March 2 and 3 after receiving assurances. The Naxalites stated that they are in Odisha, but since most of their members are from the Bastar region, they have agreed to surrender in Chhattisgarh. A team is leading the way and establishing contact, while the remaining members are gradually arriving. They have requested time until March 1.

Waiting for a decision from the Central Committee (CC), the possibility of keeping surrendered individuals in barracks and later being implicated in a case, and the fear of encounters during combing operations. Naxalites say these reasons have led to a few days of skepticism among cadres.

The letter concludes by stating that 15 members – DVC-3, AC-5, and PM-7 – are ready to surrender and plan to do so in Mahasamund district, 28 days before the target date of March 31st.

Appeal for protection

The letter specifically urges that police combing operations and pressure operations to force surrender be halted, so that incoming Naxalites can safely reach their designated locations. Odisha Police have also been informed and requested to halt search operations in Balangir and Bargarh districts. The Naxalites say they fear the group could disintegrate if they detect security forces moving along their route.

Home Minister Sharma will release the video

Home Minister Vijay Sharma has issued a statement regarding the Naxalite letter. He stated that through the letter, Naxalites from Balangir, Bargarh, and Mahasamund divisions have expressed their desire for rehabilitation. Their number is more than 15. The Naxalites have requested radio messages to ensure their safety. The government is making serious efforts to provide a safe passage for the Naxalites. The Home Minister stated that he will release a video appealing to the Naxalites to return and promising to ensure their safety, health, and well-being.
