The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended seven officials of the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal. The Chief Secretary of Bengal has been directed to initiate disciplinary action against the officials. This action has been taken for serious misconduct, dereliction of duty, and misuse of legal powers in connection with the SIR. The Election Commission has taken a tough stand against allegations of serious negligence and misconduct during election duty in West Bengal. The Commission has suspended seven officials with immediate effect and issued orders for disciplinary action against them.

The Commission has directed the Chief Secretary of West Bengal to initiate disciplinary proceedings against these officers without any delay by their respective cadre controlling authorities and inform the Commission about the same.

The Election Commission has suspended seven West Bengal officials for negligence in election duty. It is reported that substantial evidence of serious misconduct, dereliction of duty, and misuse of SIR powers has been found against these officials.

The Election Commission has made it clear that any negligence or arbitrariness in the SIR process will be tolerated. This move by the Commission is being seen as a major warning to ensure fair elections in the state.

According to reports, the suspended officials include Dr. Safi Ur Rahman, AERO from Samserganj in Murshidabad, and Nitish Das, AERO from Farakka. Dalia Ray Chowdhury from Mainaguri and SK Murshid Alam from Suti Block have also been suspended. Satyajit Das and Joydeep Kundu, AROs from the Canning Purbo constituency in South 24 Parganas, have also been suspended. Action has also been taken against Debashish Biswas, Joint Director General of Police (BDO) and ARO from the Debra Assembly constituency.
